Though she had asked Su Xie for help, Song Er still kept in touch with Gu Luxing, hoping to find out something from him. However, the results were not what she had hoped for.
Su Xie's progress was also not smooth. The evidence from that year had long been deliberately erased, which, while making the case more suspicious, also made it impossible to reach a conclusion because no evidence could be found.
While the investigation made no progress, Su Xie and Song Er met in private because of the performance.
The performance was scheduled for the next week and since it was in another city, the theater company had already booked the flights and arranged for reception. As Su Xie did not have time to go with her, she could only help her handle things in advance to ensure that there would be no problems when Song Er got there.
This made Song Er feel a bit embarrassed. At first, she only wanted Su Xie to help her handle the annoying invitations, but now it felt like she was having Su Xie do unpaid work for her.
"Su Xie, how about I pay you a monthly salary?" Song Er said sincerely.
Su Xie let out a helpless chuckle and half-jokingly said, "You really want to hire me as your manager. I told you before, my fee is not low. I wonder if you can afford it."
"Su Xie!" Song Er defended herself, feeling wronged. "I'm just worried because you're taking this so seriously. I'm not a child; can't I handle these simple things myself?"
Su Xie pretended to have a sudden realization, putting on the air of an elder. "So you're saying I'm too old and long-winded."
"No, no, you are full of youthful vigor. Who would dare say you're old?" Song Er quickly tried to smooth things over, and as the topic moved on, she secretly decided to formally talk with Su Xie at some point and handle these matters herself in the future.
Despite what was said, Su Xie still handled everything for her. She even went so far as to discuss some details with the other party, only feeling relieved after confirming that everything was foolproof.
Gu Luxing didn't know about Song Er's performance in another city until the night before she left. He came home early for a change, only to hear Zhou Yuwei reminding Song Er at the dinner table what to be mindful of when she was away.
Song Er responded to each reminder, but the previous intimacy was gone. She tried her best to act as if everything was normal, but if you looked closely, you could still spot the subtle difference.
As soon as dinner ended, Gu Luxing found Song Er in a moment when everyone else was busy.
"Come with me," he said.
Song Er was unwilling, but Gu Luxing didn't give her a chance, pulling her directly upstairs.
The attic on the third floor was a place she was more than familiar with. For those few years, she would run up there whenever she had time. She knew all the furnishings, the location of every book, and even the story behind every painting on the wall.
She hadn't expected that after she had been away for so long, nothing inside had changed. Had Gu Luxing deliberately kept it this way for her? A hint of emotion stirred in her heart at the thought.
"After you left, I never touched this room again, thinking that when you came back, you shouldn't feel like a stranger," Gu Luxing quickly confirmed her guess, not even giving her a chance to be mistaken.
Song Er froze, hesitating to go inside. She had worked so hard to avoid it, so hard to prevent herself from remembering, but in the end, she couldn't escape.
Just by standing at the doorway, the familiar sight of the attic easily pulled her back into her memories. It was here that Gu Luxing had patiently taught her how to look at the stars and identify constellations. He had also told her not to dwell on the past, but she never thought that after she had come to terms with one past, she would get trapped in another.
This past made it impossible for her to accept Gu Cheng, made her almost betray her trust, and caused her to deviate from her path, a path she could no longer pull herself back to, no matter how hard she tried.
"Just stay here."
"Do you want to look at the stars? I'll teach you."
"Although Altair and Vega may seem to meet at a certain time, they have always been a thousand miles apart."
"Song Er, I really wish you'd grow up quickly."
...
So much had happened between her and Gu Luxing here. Those countless small moments known only to the two of them, those unforgettable experiences, now filled her heart like a surging spring.
"Come inside," Gu Luxing took her hand, gently leading her across the river of time, letting her see every bit of the past.
The two stopped by the window. The carpet was still the same one from that year. The grease stains from her secretly eating snacks were still there, and the patch where she had often picked at it, causing the fluff to fall out, was also there. It seemed as if nothing had changed, yet she knew that everything had.
Gu Luxing sat down on the carpet and pulled Song Er down with him.
From this position, they could see the outside of the window. But tonight the clouds were too heavy, the sky was pitch-black, and nothing could be seen, not even the moon was visible.
Neither of them spoke. Even though there was nothing outside the window, they still maintained that same position, a position they had held so many times after dinner in this very room.
"I once truly thought that moving into the Gu family and meeting all of you was a great fortune," Song Er said softly after a long while, but she was more serious than ever. "But why does it feel like fate is just playing a trick on me? Why is it never willing to tilt the balance even a little bit toward me?"
"I'm sorry."
"Who are you apologizing for? The Gu family, or yourself?" Song Er let out a cold laugh, her gaze turning toward Gu Luxing, more resolute than ever.
Gu Luxing's heart tightened abruptly. "Song Er..." He tried to comfort her, but in the end, he couldn't find the right words.
He had seen so many sides of Song Er, but never this one. She was strong and decisive, as if she had trapped herself in a bottle. He could see her, but he could not reach her.
"If I could, I truly wish I had never heard any rumors. If I could, I also wish I had never moved in here."
Song Er's eyes swept across half the attic. "If I hadn't moved in, I wouldn't have met you so early, wouldn't have fallen for you, and none of the things that happened later would have occurred. Perhaps, you shouldn't have let me into this room in the first place."
"But I have never regretted it!"
Gu Luxing gazed at Song Er with his familiar sincere eyes. However, compared to usual, they were less restrained and more fervent.
Even though she tried her best to control herself, she still couldn't stop her heart from fluttering in front of Gu Luxing. He was the person she had tried so hard to forget, the one she had even fooled and numbed herself into forgetting on countless nights. Every move he made, every breath he took, could easily affect her.
Until the end—
"I should go."
Just as Gu Luxing was about to kiss her, Song Er finally found the strength to push him away.
She fled the attic, her heart still pounding for a long time. Just a little bit, just a tiny bit more, and things would have become even more complicated. She couldn't and wouldn't allow herself to have anything more with Gu Luxing.
On the morning before her departure, Song Er received a letter. It was unsigned, but she had already guessed who it was from.
Gu Luxing apologized for his actions the previous night and told her that due to work, he couldn't attend her performance and wished her a successful one in advance.
She had thought nothing of it, but hearing Gu Luxing bring it up like that made her feel a little emotional.
Gu Cheng took the lead in escorting her. Even though there had been a noticeable rift between them recently, he was scheduled to arrive two days later than Song Er due to his classes. Gu Ye also came along.
Gu Ye's presence was completely unplanned.
Song Er had mentioned the performance to the Gu family a while ago, but Gu Luxing had been so busy with work that he couldn't find the time.
Thinking that Gu Cheng would be going with her, he didn't know why but he felt a little annoyed. Just then, he saw Gu Ye coming back from school and a thought flashed through his mind, and a smile unconsciously appeared on his face.
"Aren't you going to support her performance?" he asked Gu Ye, feigning indifference.
"It's in another city, so it's not convenient," Gu Ye said. Of course, she wanted to go, but Zhou Yuwei felt it would be troublesome for Song Er, so she didn't allow her to.
Gu Luxing took a sip from the cup of coffee he was holding and said casually, "If you want to go, I can have Han Xun arrange it for you."
The sadness on Gu Ye's face immediately turned into a smile. She looked at Gu Luxing with immense admiration. "Uncle, you're so cool! I love you so much!"
Seeing that Gu Ye was about to pounce on him, Gu Luxing quickly took a step back, maintaining the posture of an elder. "Don't use that charm on me. I heard you dropped two places on your last exam. Don't always think about having fun."
Gu Ye's face immediately fell. She had already been lectured by her father about this. She hadn't expected Gu Luxing to bring it up as well.
"Uncle, not you too—" Gu Luxing turned to look at her, and Gu Ye immediately put away her resentment. She smiled and promised, "I'll definitely move up next time."
And so, Gu Ye was successfully dispatched by Gu Luxing to be a third wheel, completely unaware of his intentions. Gu Luxing also knew that his actions were a little underhanded, but to put his mind at ease, he couldn't care less.
As soon as the final rehearsal ended, Song Er received a call from Gu Cheng, who said that they had arrived at the theater. She turned around and saw Gu Ye waving at her. She said goodbye to the person in charge there and prepared to leave.
Song Er put on her jacket while asking the two people waiting at the door, "Have you had dinner yet?" It had been a little hot during the rehearsal, so she had taken off her jacket. Now that she was going out, she was afraid of catching a cold, so she decided to put it back on.
The two had rushed over and had dinner on the plane, so they weren't hungry right now.
"We ate on the plane," Gu Ye replied and added without politeness, "But if Sister Er wants a late-night snack, I won't refuse."
Gu Cheng pressed Gu Ye's head and pulled her behind him, asking Song Er, "You haven't eaten yet?"
Song Er shook her head. "I have, but the theater company told me there's a snack street nearby with good food."
As soon as she heard about good food, Gu Ye naturally wouldn't let it go and insisted on going. Song Er was always soft-hearted and couldn't resist Gu Ye's nagging. Luckily, Gu Cheng stopped her.
"Let's go after tomorrow's performance. You should go back and rest early tonight," he said, glaring at Gu Ye. "Your Sister Er has another rehearsal first thing in the morning."
With that, Gu Ye no longer insisted. The group left the theater and went straight back to the hotel.
To make it convenient for them to look after each other, the hotel rooms were specially booked together on the same floor. Song Er had just finished taking a shower and was about to put on a face mask when Gu Ye came over and managed to get a face mask from Song Er as well.
The two lay on the bed, wearing their masks. Song Er's phone was still playing the music from the performance. This was her habit; for a week leading up to a performance or a competition, she would fully immerse herself in the music, even though she had listened to it countless times and knew every note by heart.
"Sister Er, I just feel like you're different somehow since you came back to the country."
It must be a girl's sensitivity. Song Er didn't interact much with Gu Ye and didn't think she was treating her any differently, but it still gave Gu Ye that feeling.
"Am I?" Song Er asked calmly.
Gu Ye nodded and thought for a moment, then said seriously, "You don't smile as much as you used to, and you don't seem as comfortable with my brother. Even your interactions with Uncle seem a little strange."
"It's probably because I've been abroad for so long and have been caught up in all sorts of things since I came back. I just haven't adjusted yet." With her frequent use of such excuses, Song Er didn't even have to think to come up with a series of explanations.
Gu Ye didn't dwell on the question. After a moment of silence, she suddenly spoke again. "Sister Er, are you really going to get engaged to my brother?"
She hadn't expected Gu Ye to ask this all of a sudden. A look of surprise flashed across Song Er's face. Luckily, she was wearing a mask, so Gu Ye didn't see it. After she calmed down, she said, "I don't think I have the right to answer that question."
It was a marriage arranged by the elders, and she was no longer at an age where she could act on a whim, so her answer was of no consequence.
"Then do you really like my brother?"
Song Er froze for a moment, then closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She took off her mask and threw it in the trash can. When she turned back, she saw Gu Ye had already gotten up from the bed. She pretended to be serious and said, "Xiao Yezi, why are you asking all these strange questions today?"
Realizing that her question might have been inappropriate, Gu Ye gave an awkward laugh and said goodbye to Song Er. "Sister Er, I'm going back now. Get some rest. Good night."
Song Er's face had already returned to a smile, and she gently said, "Good night."
After seeing Gu Ye off, Song Er stood there in a daze for a while. It wasn't until her phone alarm reminded her that it was eleven o'clock that she finally came back to her senses. She turned off the alarm and got ready for bed.
On Saturday, people from the theater company came to pick up Song Er early in the morning. This wasn't a solo performance. After consulting with her, the theater company had added some extra elements to make the whole stage more visually enjoyable.
However, the team only had two days to practice, and since they hadn't had much time to rehearse the previous afternoon, they were going to make the most of today.
Song Er didn't wake up Gu Cheng and Gu Ye. She sent them a text message before leaving. The two of them arrived close to noon and waited for Song Er to finish her rehearsal. After having lunch together, Song Er had to go back to get her costume and makeup ready. Afraid that they would be bored just sitting there, she told them to go wander around and come back when the performance was about to start.
While she was getting her makeup done, Su Xie called. Besides congratulating her on a successful performance, she specifically told her to make time to meet up after she got back. Song Er didn't ask too many questions and could guess what it was about.
To fit in with the entire performance, Song Er's act was scheduled right in the middle, as the highlight of the whole show. This was also the theater company's way of showing goodwill toward Song Er, hoping for future collaborations and even inviting her to join the troupe.
Song Er didn't have many plans in this regard for now. For one, she was only a freshman, and there was still a long time until she graduated. During this time, she also had to prepare for major world-class competitions, leaving her with very little time to balance being a part of a theater company. Furthermore, she intended to get in touch with some world-class troupes, hoping to learn and improve, and she didn't want to be tied down to just one troupe.
Before the performance started, Gu Cheng and Gu Ye came backstage to say hello and then went out to wait for the show to begin.
Before changing into her costume, she specifically checked her ballet shoes, probably as a result of the lingering effects from the last time. A message notification popped up on her phone. She picked it up to read it, but then someone from the troupe came to talk to her, and she was so busy that she didn't get a chance to read it before she went on stage.
On stage, Song Er performed as steadily as ever. Her understanding of the music, the tension of her stage presence, and the expression of her emotions were all exquisite, fully integrating them into every move and easily captivating the audience.
It wasn't until the end of the entire performance that everyone snapped out of their trance. After a brief moment of stunned silence, they remembered to clap. The move that had to be changed at the last minute due to her sprained ankle was showcased even more perfectly this time.
Gu Cheng stood backstage with a bouquet of flowers, waiting for her. Song Er smiled and walked over, politely saying "thank you," not knowing what else to do.
No wonder even Gu Ye noticed her change. She subconsciously glanced at Gu Cheng. What about him? Had he noticed a long time ago but was just trying his best to protect her?
Song Er suddenly felt a sense of panic without a reason. If the truth from that year was indeed related to the Gu family, would she end up hurting Gu Cheng by seeking justice for her parents?
The person in charge of the troupe came over and told her that there would be a get-together later. She pulled herself together, but her heart felt heavy.
Knowing the relationship between Gu Cheng and Song Er, they were also invited. After the get-together, Gu Ye insisted on going to the snack street for a late-night snack before returning to the hotel, feeling content.
Although she tried her best to hide it, Song Er was noticeably quieter tonight. She would only answer questions that were directed at her and would never initiate a conversation.
Their return flight was scheduled for the next morning. As soon as they arrived in Xuchuan, a driver from the Gu family was already waiting outside. Song Er remembered what Su Xie had said, handed over her luggage to the driver, and came up with an excuse, saying that she had some business at school. She then took a taxi directly to Su Xie's place.
After returning to China, Su Xie had not been in a hurry to find a place to live and had been staying in the faculty dorms arranged by the school. Song Er had already called her from the car, and Su Xie was now waiting for her in her dorm room.
The two didn't exchange many pleasantries. Su Xie opened the door, and Song Er followed her in after changing her shoes. After a simple greeting, she took the cup of tea that Su Xie handed her, and they got down to business.
When Su Xie said on the phone that she wanted to meet, Song Er guessed that the investigation had made some progress, which was why she was so eager and didn't want to wait a moment longer.
Before she started, Su Xie gave her one more reminder: "This might make you recall some old memories. Are you sure you're okay with this?"
Song Er's hand holding the teacup tightened slightly, but she tried to keep her expression calm. "I'm fine."
"These are some things I found out through various connections." Su Xie said, laying out the documents she had found one by one. "It can be confirmed that your parents' death was not an accident. I also found that the person in charge of your father's collaboration with Gu Group was Gu Mingjing."
Song Er took the stack of papers that Su Xie handed her. It clearly listed the main people in charge of the collaboration: her father on one side and Gu Mingjing on the other.
Song Er still didn't understand. "What does that have to do with my father's accident?"
"There were no issues with the contract, but look closely here," Su Xie said, pointing to a section. "The entire collaboration had been in the works for a long time, but just as it was about to be implemented, your father suddenly terminated the partnership. Less than a month after that, he was killed."
"Are you saying..."
"Gu Group has been aggressively expanding its business empire in recent years. Driven by huge profits, it's not out of the question that they might have resorted to illegal means," Su Xie explained.
But Song Er still had a point of confusion. "Even if my father terminated the partnership, Gu Mingjing wouldn't have to go so far, would he?"
"Perhaps your father knew something else."
"But the two families have always been family friends," Song Er tried to argue.
Su Xie couldn't offer a clear explanation, only saying, "I'm still looking for the reasons behind it, but as things stand, the two families had an unpleasant partnership, and the yacht belonged to Gu Group. Gu Group is clearly under a lot of suspicion."
When Song Er saw the evidence laid out in front of her, she still couldn't accept it. After a long silence, she slowly spoke. "If you can, please help me find the evidence to prove they are guilty."
"I can't guarantee that," Su Xie said, also feeling a bit troubled, but she still promised, "But I will do my best to help you."
Song Er said sincerely, "Su Xie, thank you."
"We're friends. There's no need to be so polite."
Song Er managed a smile but didn't say anything more. When she saw that it was getting late, she didn't want to bother Su Xie anymore and said her goodbyes.
After leaving Su Xie's place, Song Er was clearly feeling down. Gu Luxing had never mentioned any of this to her. Had he not found out, or was he intentionally hiding it?
"Get in!"
Suddenly, a car screeched to a halt beside Song Er, startling her and making her take several steps back. After she calmed down, she saw the person inside the car.
"Why are you here?" Song Er asked, looking at Gu Luxing with confusion.
Gu Luxing didn't answer and just leaned over slightly to open the car door. Song Er hesitated for a moment but still got in. It wasn't because she was afraid of Gu Luxing, but because it was not convenient to go back to the Gu family from here, and she didn't want the hassle.
The atmosphere in the car was unusually tense. Gu Luxing's face was gloomy. Anyone could see that he was in a bad mood, but Song Er was so caught up in her own thoughts that she didn't notice.
Gu Luxing drove very fast, as if he was venting something. Suddenly, he slammed on the brakes. Song Er was caught off guard, and even with her seatbelt on, her forehead still hit the dashboard.
"Gu Luxing, are you crazy?" Song Er asked angrily, turning her head to face him.
He slowly looked at her, pretending to be calm. "You're so impatient, running to his place as soon as you get back. Why didn't you just let him go with you?" His voice was devoid of any emotion, and every word was articulated clearly.
"What do you mean?"
"Song Er, you'd better put away all those crazy ideas. I told you, I won't let you go."
Song Er was already in a bad mood, and being scolded by Gu Luxing for no reason made her angry as well. "Gu Luxing, who I meet and when I meet them is my freedom. You have no right to interfere."
"Then who does? That person named Su?" Gu Luxing lost his composure and roared at Song Er, the anger in his eyes barely contained.
When he heard from Han Xun that she had gone directly to see Su Xie after leaving the airport, he left his office immediately and waited for two whole hours downstairs at the faculty dorms before he saw her come down. He had thought she would at least explain, but in the end, he didn't get an explanation. Instead, she told him that he had no right to tell her what to do.
The girl who had always been quiet and obedient since she moved into the Gu family was now telling him that he was not qualified to interfere in her life, all for the sake of another man. He would never allow this to happen.
Song Er had rarely seen Gu Luxing so angry. The way he was, not even bothering to hide it, looking as if he could strangle her at any moment, made her forget what to say. She just stared at him blankly.
In the end, she watched as Gu Luxing slowly calmed down, started the car again, and drove in silence. He dropped her off at the Gu family home and left without even entering the house.
"Uncle, do you have time? There's something I need to talk to you about."
It had been a week since Song Er had taken the initiative to call Li Chongming.
Ever since she left Su Xie's place, she had been determined to find out what had happened that year. Su Xie had once asked her what she would do after she learned the truth, and she hadn't figured it out yet, but she absolutely couldn't keep herself in the dark.
Li Chongming was also surprised that Song Er had called him. Ever since her parents passed away, Song Er had become much quieter. When he arranged for her to go to the Gu family, she never said a word of protest. It was rare for her to call and say she had something to say.
The two of them agreed to meet in the afternoon, just in time for dinner. When Li Chongming arrived, Song Er had already been there, looking like she had been waiting for a while.
"How have you been lately?" Li Chongming asked in a friendly way.
Song Er's face was calm as she asked nonchalantly, "Uncle, you said last time you wanted me to help out at Song Group. If I agree now, is it still a valid offer?"
A look of doubt appeared on Li Chongming's face. He asked, "Didn't you say you didn't want to help out at the company last time?"
He remembered clearly that last time, she had listed a whole bunch of reasons to refuse when he only mentioned it slightly. Why would she suddenly want to help out at Song Group now?
"But I don't want to see you struggle to shoulder the burden of Song Group all by yourself, working from dawn to dusk every day. How can you find time to date and get married like that? Didn't that lady break up with you last time because you were always too busy with work?" Song Er's expression was sincere, and her earnest persuasion made him believe her.
Seeing that Li Chongming was beginning to waver, she quickly added, "I also want to go to the company to gain some experience. After all, I'm a part of Song Group. I can't just do nothing and stay out of it, can I?"
Li Chongming seemed pleased with her words and didn't object. "If you have that in mind, I'll arrange a position for you so you can train yourself."
"Thank you, Uncle. I'll work hard and I won't let you down," Song Er said, quickly pouring Li Chongming a cup of tea and guaranteeing with a firm attitude.
"Don't put too much pressure on yourself. If you don't understand something, you can always ask me."
It was a rare dinner that felt quite warm. In addition to talking about work, they also chatted about some family matters. Afterward, Song Er was going to take a taxi home, but Li Chongming insisted she shouldn't be taking a taxi alone. In the end, she had no choice but to get into Li Chongming's car to go back to the Gu family home.
Her job at Song Group was arranged quickly. Song Er didn't proactively mention it to the Gu family. She only gave a brief explanation when Zhou Yuwei asked about it.
Gu Luxing must have heard about it from somewhere. When Song Er got back, she found him waiting outside her room.
"Is something wrong?" Song Er asked.
The two hadn't seen each other since their last argument. Gu Luxing hadn't come back home since that day.
It wasn't until later that Song Er understood why Gu Luxing had been so angry. On the night of the performance, Gu Luxing had sent her a text message asking when she would be back, but she never replied.
When had Gu Luxing ever been so ignored? On top of that, she went to see Su Xie as soon as she got back, which made him misunderstand.
Even so, Song Er still felt that Gu Luxing was overly controlling. Why did he think she would be devoted to him when he did nothing?
"You don't have to go to Song Group," Gu Luxing had returned to his gentle demeanor and got straight to the point. "I said I would give you the truth, and I won't break my promise."
He knew her intentions for going to Song Group all too well. If it was just for that matter, he didn't want her to put herself in danger.
"This is my decision."
"Am I so unworthy of your trust?"
Song Er's heart fluttered when he looked at her. She still spoke her mind. "It's not about whether I trust you. It's about me having to do this."
"I can do this for you."
Song Er took a deep breath and said with determination, "Gu Luxing, I bear the agreement between the Song and Gu families. Everyone in the Gu family has always taken care of me as Gu Cheng's future wife. I'm Gu Cheng's fiancée. That's a fact that can't be easily changed. By all rights, I should even call you 'Uncle.' What position do you have to do things for me?"
They had always tried to avoid and ignore these problems. But at this moment, they were spoken by Song Er with such resolve. They could disregard any external scrutiny, but what about the Gu family?
How could every member of the Gu family accept this fact, and what would they think of her? They wouldn't understand their feelings. They would only think she had a bad heart, causing chaos throughout the Gu family.
Gu Luxing's eyes darkened. He hadn't expected Song Er to use these things to contradict him.
"In the end, you still don't trust me."
"It's my family's business. What's wrong with me investigating it?"
"If I help you, the result will be the same," Gu Luxing said.
"I can refuse to accept it."
Song Er's firm attitude made Gu Luxing realize how determined she was in this matter.
She had truly grown up. In the past, she would never have refused his help.
In the end, Gu Luxing backed down. For the time being, he probably couldn't persuade her to give up. There was no point in them standing here.
After leaving Song Er, Gu Luxing went back to his study. The screensaver on his computer was a picture of Song Er from one of her performances. If you looked closely, you could tell it was a few years old. The Song Er in the picture was still very young, but she was already beginning to radiate.
At some point, she was no longer that quiet, heart-wrenching little girl sitting in the corner. She had become independent, brave, and no longer needed his protection.
The ringing of the phone was particularly clear on a night like this. Gu Luxing didn't snap out of his daze until a while later. He answered the phone, his voice a little low. "What's wrong?"
"What's wrong with you?" Han Xun on the other end of the line was puzzled.
Gu Luxing didn't answer. Han Xun didn't care and continued, "We've found out that Gu Mingjing might have an acquisition plan recently. I've already sent the specific details to your email. There's been no movement from Li Chongming's side, but it shouldn't be quiet for long."
"Got it," Gu Luxing answered distractedly, his mind clearly not on the call.
Han Xun sensed something was off and asked in confusion, "No, your state is not right. What happened?"
He didn't have to hide anything from Han Xun. "Song Er is going to Song Group."
"What!" Han Xun was also surprised. "What is she going to Song Group for?"
"She seems to have found something out and is going to investigate it herself."
When he mentioned this, Gu Luxing felt a bit annoyed again. He had always tried to keep Song Er from getting involved in these matters because most of the people involved were closely related to her, and he didn't want her to get hurt. Otherwise, three years ago, he wouldn't have let her go abroad and even cut off all contact with her.
Han Xun hesitated for a moment and asked with some uncertainty, "Are you sure you don't want to explain it to Song Er? If she knew, she would definitely understand."
"No need," Gu Luxing instinctively refused. After thinking for a moment, he instructed, "Speed up what you're doing and pay more attention to her side."
Since he couldn't stop her from getting involved in these things, he could only resolve them as soon as possible. He couldn't guarantee what would happen next, but he would do everything he could to protect her.
